Kiki in Paris
A girl of nothing who wants everything, Alice Prin, known as Kiki, will be in turn a model, dancer, painter, singer, cabaret manager, film actress and, more soberly, "queen of Montparnasse". Paris between the two wars: audacity, invention, aesthetic rebellion, shift from conventional arts towards partying, music hall and circus, abandonment of holy water stoups in the direction of pleasure, paradigm shift - even the voice that gets rid of its pathos, vibrato and changes into a popular gesture: natural, microphonic, languid, intimate, blues, pop, cinematographic..., while the piano becomes a guitar.
Through the liberation of bodies, and specifically that of women, the old world has transformed into another world, our world. This is what this recording project, Kiki in Paris, sings about. On the one hand, the backlit portrait of a mysterious personality whose fascination continues and, on the other, the fascinating shift of a bombastic yet sublime expressiveness towards the world of icons.
