Paris, 1964, Alberto Giacometti, one of the greatest masters of 20th-century art, invites his friend, the American writer James Lord, to pose for a portrait. Flattered and intrigued, James accepts. It should have taken only a few days, but that didn't account for the perfectionism and demands of Giacometti's artistic process... He starts again and again to reach a certain artistic perfection. Impatient but intrigued, his model James Lord must delay his return to the United States and accepts to get involved. As the days go by, Giacometti tries to create his ultimate masterpiece, and Lord gets to know his entourage: his brother Diego, his wife Annette, his mistress Caroline, etc.
