BAROQUE PERU - ENSEMBLE LA CHIMERA
During the Baroque era, the scores of great Spanish, Portuguese, or even Italian masters reached Latin America aboard European ships and, conversely, were not hesitant to borrow the rhythms and colors of Amerindian practices. What is known as "South American Baroque" certainly owes its remarkable vitality to these musical exchanges, as shown by collections of the time, including two from Peru, the famous Codex Martínez Compañón and the lesser-known but equally fascinating Codex Zuola.
Eduardo Egüez and La Chimera have established themselves as reference performers of this repertoire. They offer a new program filled with irresistible rhythms and melodies, juxtaposing Corelli's sonatas with the syncretic compositions of early Peruvian times.
