For some time now, elements of Catholic devotion have enjoyed renewed popularity. On platforms like TikTok, young people are rediscovering the rosary's aesthetics under the term "catholic core" in the 21st century. Simultaneously, in discussions about post-conciliar liturgy, aesthetic arguments are often put forward. A Mass according to the Roman Missal of 1962 is considered more beautiful. These phenomena raise the question of whether there is a specifically Catholic aesthetic. If so, what makes it so, and why is it so appealing to different people? Can this aesthetics offer something religious without falling into contemporary or reactionary aestheticism?
