Twenty years ago, Matt Elliott released "Drinking Songs", the first part of a remarkable trilogy, a magnificent seven-track dark folk album that remains the most listened to this day on platforms, and is acclaimed by fans of the Bristol native. Today, to celebrate the anniversary of the most emblematic work of his discography, Matt Elliott offers us "Drinking Songs Live 20 Years On", a collection of alternative versions recorded live in trio with the musicians accompanying him on stage: Anne-Elisabeth de Cologne (double bass) and Barbara Dang (piano).
"Drinking Songs Live 20 Years On" is not only the celebration of two decades of an internationally recognized work, it is above all an edifying work of exploration and reinterpretation. By reviving his "drinking songs" twenty years later, Matt Elliott offers us a precious gift: the possibility of listening to "Drinking Songs" again for the first time.
