Globally, 2.4 billion people live with a health condition that can benefit from rehabilitation, according to the World Health Organization. In May 2023, WHO recognized rehabilitation as an essential health service, highlighting its fundamental role in the overall care pathway for patients. Despite this recognition, rehabilitation needs remain largely unmet. In some low- and middle-income countries, more than 50% of people in need still do not have access. Furthermore, crises, whether conflict, natural disasters or epidemics, exacerbate this situation by increasing demand while disrupting existing rehabilitation services.

Handicap International invites you to its next conference "Rehabilitation, a lever for inclusion?", on November 21, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Auditorium of Cercle Cité, 2 rue Genistre in Luxembourg.

Our guests will come to lead and enrich the discussions: Gaston Schütz, Director of Rehazenter in Luxembourg, alongside Patrick Lefolcalvez, rehabilitation referent cjez HI Luxembourg, Gisèle Bankundye (rehabilitation specialist in Rwanda), Fatima Nasser-Edine (rehabilitation expert in Haiti), and Valentina Pomatto, responsible for advocacy for inclusion at Handicap International.

This conference will be an opportunity to explore the fundamental issues related to rehabilitation, comparing practices and realities in Luxembourg with those of low- and middle-income countries. Experts will share their perspectives on the essential role of rehabilitation for the inclusion of people with disabilities, addressing challenges, successes and opportunities in different contexts. A collective questioning will emerge around how rehabilitation can be a lever for emancipation and autonomy, while promoting inclusion on a global scale.

Translations into German as well as German Sign Language will be available.
After the conference, a cocktail party will be organized at the AKA restaurant.
