Robi Gottlieb-Cahen, born in 1949 in Luxembourg, was a professor of economics, sociology and secular ethics at the Lycée classique d'Echternach from 1979 to 2012. A full member of the Cercle Artistique de Luxembourg (CAL), as well as the Groupement d'artistes plastiques Luxembourg (ARC) and the Association des artistes plastiques Luxembourg (AAPL), he has been practicing painting and drawing since the age of seven. However, Robi likes to point out that he really became an artist at the age of 40, after choosing to destroy all his previous works in order to start anew, to wipe the slate clean of habits and influences.
His artistic method is characterized by a process of superposition and unveiling, integrating pigments and acids. This approach highlights the beauty of imperfection, frequently exploring themes such as sexuality, memory and justice. His portraits, with a mysterious expression mixing suffering and grace, encourage interpretation and introspection. They then become mirrors into which each person can project their own inner universe.
