The documentary "Brainwashed" questions the impact of images on our conception of gender, and in particular the male gaze on women. Through 175 films, director Nina Menkes examines systemic sexism in cinematic storytelling. "Brainwashed" deconstructs the Hollywood myth and highlights how visual language can foster sexual discrimination and violence.
The screening will be followed by a discussion (in English) with the director Nina Menkes (online), Madelaine Wood, PhD student at the University of Luxembourg, with a master's degree in intercultural communication and a bachelor's degree in film production, and Isabelle Schmoetten, head of the Information and Documentation Centre Fraen an Gender. Moderator: Isabel Spigarelli. A translation from English to French is available on request.
A cocktail will be offered before the screening, starting at 6 p.m.
