Dakka & So Gnawa is a traditional Moroccan music group composed of eight musicians who have grown up in the folklore of Marrakech, known as "Dakka". From a young age, they were introduced to the traditional rhythms and melodies that characterize Dakka el Marrakchia, a ritual and folkloric musical form of percussion originating from Marrakech, Morocco. Over the years, the members of Dakka & So Gnawa have also acquired an expertise in the art of Gnawa, an African musical tradition that was inscribed in 2019 by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This combination of musical traditions, dakka and gnawa, gives the group its unique and characteristic style. Dakka & So Gnawa is known for its festive repertoire, which blends traditional elements and improvisation in interaction with the audience. The group performs on stage at festivals and music events throughout France, offering an unparalleled dance and music experience.
The group also stands out with its traditional costumes that add an elegant visual touch to their stage performance. The audience is often invited to join the dance, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for all participants. Dakka & So Gnawa has gained popularity over the years and has become an essential group in the "world music" scene. Their passion for music and commitment to preserving Morocco's musical culture make them a must-see group at music events across the country.
