Are we Hamlet? Do we wander just as uncertainly through our lives? He couldn't overcome the unexpected death of his father. A ghost, he thinks, told him or confirmed that it wasn't as it seemed. His mother's swift turn to his uncle, the brother and heir of the deceased, seemed like further confirmation. Our Hamlet is trapped in his thoughts, doubts, and inhibitions, causing him to gradually sense permanent dangers everywhere. Hamlet, a dreamer? Undoubtedly, Shakespeare achieved a masterpiece of complexity within his hesitations, constantly believing he's missing opportunities for revenge, only to draw wrong and thus disastrous conclusions for everyone. A young man abandoned, perhaps ultimately by himself. The fact that the ghost of the dead father appears to him in the form of his equally terrified mother, in whom he also sees the Ophelia he so desired and ultimately despised, is part of our concept, which certainly allows for broad interpretive freedom but also some direction.
