Guided Tours of the Exhibition – Féierungen duerch d’Ausstellung
This exhibition is a journey through time, offering a detailed insight into Luxembourgish libraries from the 16th to the 19th century. It explores documentary history from a unique perspective, highlighting masterpieces from the special collections of the National Library of Luxembourg.
The exhibition highlights the diversity of historical libraries, ranging from monastic and ecclesiastical collections to private libraries of figures like Pierre Roberti (circa 1566-1636) or Pierre-Ernest de Mansfeld (1517-1604). It also showcases the influence of notable figures such as Jean-Baptiste Halle (1748-1824) and Dominique-Constantin Munchen (1763-1818), whose efforts have marked the country's documentary history.
Special attention is given to printed books, often overshadowed by manuscripts perceived as more spectacular. In this context, various aspects related to the material object are highlighted: the authors, the topics addressed, the dedications, the social groups consulting them, the signs of use, or the provenance. These details underscore the value and importance of these precious books.
