The construction of Fort Thüngen dates back to 1732. In 1836, and then from 1859 to 1860, the fort was modernized and expanded. Today, Fort Thüngen is the only detached fort still existing on the territory of the former Luxembourg fortress. While part of the above-ground buildings is destroyed, almost all the underground galleries of the reduit have remained intact.
