Driven by the growing vogue for the pianoforte in Viennese society, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed his piano trios. In the Trio KV 496, the first of maturity, the composer grants the two string instruments an independence never before conferred. The Debussy Trio takes over during this concert, commented in German by the moderator Claus-Christian Schuster, on the occasion of the last Face-to-Face concert of the season.
