The New Year That Never Came (Luxfilmfest)
December 20, 1989. Romania is on the brink of revolution. The authorities are preparing New Year's celebrations as if nothing were happening, but the official façade is starting to crack. In the fervor of protest, six destinies are set to cross paths over the course of a day unlike any other, until the fall of Ceaușescu and his regime.
By showcasing six distinct characters with different occupations and backgrounds within the same timeline, Bogdan Mureșanu's debut feature film cleverly addresses a pivotal moment in Romanian history. On the eve of the revolution in 1989, the tension mounts in a manner sometimes fierce, sometimes bizarrely comical, subtly highlighting the political urgency Romania faces again today.
