In 1938, in Romania, Dominic Matei, an old linguistics professor, is struck by lightning and miraculously becomes younger. With heightened mental faculties, he sets out to complete his life's work: a research on the origins of language. However, his condition attracts spies from all sides: Nazis seeking to conduct scientific experiments and American agents looking to recruit new minds. Dominic Matei has no choice but to flee from country to country, changing identities. During his journey, he reunites with his lifelong love, or perhaps a woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to her. She might be the key to his research, unless he is forced to lose her again.
