Conference: The Franco-Prussian War (1870-71) in the Province of Luxembourg
In July 1870, Napoleon III, Emperor of the French, declared war on Prussia. Intense battles took place near the border with our province, from Aubange to Bouillon. While our region fortunately was not directly involved in the conflict, it was significantly impacted: the reception of French refugees, passage of deserters, injured individuals, and prisoners. The provincial governor and the expeditionary corps of the Belgian army managed this situation until early 1871.
Conference organized by the Messancy-Aubange History Circle.
