Lynn Cassiers and Jozef Dumoulin have established themselves in the field of contemporary jazz and improvised music. In addition to their other collaborations, they perform as a duo called Lilly Joel, blending free improvisation with electronics. Lilly Joel Plays The Organ is a special edition of the duo, featuring Jozef Dumoulin replacing his usual electronic setup with an ancient pipe organ, an instrument he extensively played as a teenager. The project highlights the music of 12th-century sage and mystic Hildegard von Bingen, performed with voice, electronics, and pipe organ. Von Bingen's music is essentially monodic, designed to be presented by a single voice and possibly accompanied by a fixed pedal note from an instrument.
