A piece of theater for children aged 4 to 9 in the morning of the book of images by Margret Rettich. Spectacle in everything.
This innovative production, combining acting, live painting, and digital media, tells the story of "Zinnober in the Gray City," based on the picture book of the same name by award-winning author and illustrator Margret Rettich. It is the story of a painter who loves color but lives in a city where everything is supposed to be gray, because the residents have grown accustomed to it. When one day he encounters two children painting colorful pictures on the street, everything changes. The production tells the story of the contagious power of an unheard-of idea. In this way, the play allows children to experience important democratic processes—such as public participation, involvement, and co-determination—in a playful way.
The city becomes a symbol for a society that can be shaped anew again and again. Children process and express their emotions, fantasies, and desires in an intense way through painting, drawing, and doodling. Aesthetically, the production relies on a new interplay and use of technical media, live drawing, collage, and the juxtaposition of various drawing techniques, thus opening up this fundamental form of childlike expression to the theater. The artistic diversity corresponds to the idea that all different people participate in shaping their city!
