Also played is a work by Anton Eberl, whose Symphony in E flat major was performed at the same concert as Beethoven's Eroica and received better reviews. Interesting connections emerge throughout Europe; for example, Eberl and Ries both worked in Russia, and the Russian novelist Tolstoy dedicated a literary monument to Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata.
