1759, rural England. A maid is convicted of murder. When the young woman claims to be pregnant - which would save her from hanging - a jury of 12 matrons is formed, facing her, to decide her fate. Outside, the crowd cries out for blood. Inside, the jurors engage in a fierce battle, where the devil is never far away.
Leading an impressive cast of thirteen actresses and three actors, Chloé Dabert brings to life a judicial and social fresco that is also a veritable trial of suspense. Justice, patriarchy, motherhood, class conflicts...: Le Firmament subtly brings to life today's major issues, in a staging of rare intensity and accompanied by magnificent video images.
