On July 9, dive with queer loox and Luxembourg Pride into LGBTIQ+ history with the screening of The Victim, a neo-noir thriller by Basil Dearden from 1961.
Famous lawyer Melville Farr (Dirk Bogarde) decides to defend a worker, victim of blackmail because of his homosexuality, despite the risks for his own career.
Considered today a classic in the history of British cinema, this film was the first in Britain to explicitly address homosexuality and to treat it in a progressive and empathetic way. He is largely credited with liberalizing attitudes towards homosexuality in Britain and its decriminalization in 1967.
