Around Debussy's sumptuous Sonata for flute, viola and harp, the musicians of the Metz Grand Est National Orchestra have constructed an imaginary journey. Takemitsu's piece takes its title from a poem by Emily Dickinson and sets to music The Breath of the Wind wind of Nature, breath of the soul in that inimitable blend of sonic hedonism and mysticism which characterizes the Japanese composer. Bax's Elegiac Trio commemorates friends lost during the Easter Rising in Dublin (1916). The arrangement of La Sonatine for piano by Ravel and La Suitebrief by Rohozinski, a student of Vincent d'Indy who we are rediscovering, complete this program with too few numbers.
