Created in 1960, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège continues a tradition of excellence, having counted Manuel Rosenthal and François-Xavier Roth among its musical directors. Gergely Madaras has led this training brilliantly since 2019. Composer and virtuoso violinist, Eugène Ysaÿe left his mark on Belgian musical life at the end of the 19th century; the splendid Nocturnal Poem for violin, cello and orchestra was rediscovered and recently recorded thanks to the efforts of the Orchestra. With its grandiose and melancholy themes, infused with popular materials, Dvořák's “New World” Symphony is one of the greatest masterpieces in history.
