Back to the year 1000... or rather 964. Accused of leading a dissolute life, the canons of Winchester Cathedral are expelled by their bishop and replaced by monks from Abingdon. Katarina Livljanić, director of the Ensemble Dialogos, only needs two voices and two instruments (fiddle and flute) to resurrect the chronicle of this putsch, weaving together the threads of two bodies of work: the polyphonic pieces of the Winchester troparion, the very repertoire of the ousted canons, and the Life of Saint æthelwold, written in Latin by Wulfstan, the cantor of Winchester and a key witness of the period.
