Four immense colorists from the orchestra are gathered here. Inspired by Baudelaire, Tout un monde distant is one of Dutilleux's most poetic pages, wonderfully translated by the captivating cello of Edgar Moreau. What beauty also in the quivering but anguished evening of Lili Boulanger, who signs her will here, at only 24 years old: she will die a few months later of an illness. Debussy then painted the soft iridescence like the waves of the ocean, before Ravel, in 1920, made us dance a dilapidated waltz on the smoking ruins of old Europe.
