Captivating, ethereal, majestic, the British trio Mammal Hands have forged a very particular sound, full of eclectic influences. Formed in 2012 in Norwich, one of the most isolated British cities in the east, Mammal Hands have since the beginning taken a tangent from musical trends.
Passionate about electronics as well as contemporary, folk, jazz and world, the three musicians draw their influences from Pharaoah Sanders, Gétachèw Mekurya, Terry Riley, Steve Reich and Sirishkumar Manji.
Bewitching and charming on their albums, Mammal Hands captures the attention during their hypnotic concerts which always seem to take the group further and further.
Basing their approach on long improvised rehearsals, the three members of the group contribute equally to the writing process, which fosters a collective dynamic beyond individualities. Their 5th studio album Gift From the Trees offers a new perspective on their music. The album is the result of a residency in the Welsh countryside, during which the group took advantage of their isolation to seek a deeper and more organic experience. More connected to the improvisation that is part of their identity and the trance they experience live, Jordan Smart, Nick Smart and Rob Turner immerse us once again in a captivating universe.
