While respecting the original plot, this new adaptation of Carmen, with its very urban coloring and resolutely contemporary, resonates with the current awareness of the place of women in our society, their emancipation, their desire for equality and raises the question of femicide. It is on the stage of the Seven Casino that this revisited Ballet will be performed for lovers of great classics.
The different themes are developed through a choreography devoid of narration. We witness street scenes that exude great vitality. In addition, the bodies intertwine in aerial love scenes whose energy is drawn from the ground. The gestures, both dynamic and fluid, reveal new forms of movement.
The musical choice, in keeping with the choreography, finds its originality in the alternation of Bizet's instrumental work accompanied by two sung pieces with a contemporary creation by Iván Julliard. The performers are in street clothes and the refined scenography is stripped of all theatricality.
