The piano concert organized by the Differdange regional music school will feature Ms. Carmen Vilà-Fassier, a renowned pianist and honorary director of the Barcelona Higher Conservatory. A Spanish and French pianist, she is the fourth generation of a family of pianists. She began studying at age 4 with Emilia Palau and entered the higher music conservatory of the Liceo De Barcelona at age 12, obtaining the highest distinctions. She then studied with Béla Síki in Switzerland at age 17. Finalist in the International Piano Competition in Geneva In 1953 and 1955, She entered the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna in 1959 and won the International Haydn-Schubert Competition the same year. She was awarded the Reifeprüfung in 1961. She studied with Alfred Brendel, Paul Badura-Skoda and Jörg Demus, winning a prize in 1962. She was awarded the Chigiana Academy of Siena and received the Harriet-Cohen Medal in 1966. From 1967 to 1972, she was an assistant to Paul Badura-Skoda and an artist in residence at the University of Wisconsin Parkside. In 1977, she became director of the municipal higher conservatory of Barcelona until 2001. She holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Wisconsin Parkside. During this concert, she will be surrounded by teachers of the piano classes of the school, thus offering a varied and eclectic.
