Conference: Of lighthouses, fog and maritime folklore
Coasts and open waters have always been represented in literature and film as places where the boundaries between the known and the unknown worlds blur, where supernatural forces and beings operate, and where isolation drives man mad. From the literary works of HP Lovecraft to The Wicker Man (1973) and The Fog (1980), through Dagon (2001) to The Lighthouse (2019) and many other films, this conference analyzes the representation of coastal landscapes and cities in cinema.
