Even 25 years after his death, Astor Piazzolla remains the emblematic figure of contemporary tango. Is he really the only genius of this genre, the exclusive creator of Tango Nuevo, and can tango still be reinvented today? This is the challenge that the members of the Luxembourg quintet La Boca, founded in 1998, have set themselves. After two decades dedicated to promoting Piazzolla's repertoire, the ensemble has taken a new step by expanding its repertoire beyond the works of the Master. They have explored the great classics of tango and sought out new talents among the rising stars of the world scene. Some members of La Boca have also composed new scores in the spirit and style of this music. The quintet takes its name from a working-class district of Buenos Aires, a poor neighborhood with an intense nightlife where tango, this popular genre that has so quickly acquired worldwide fame, developed and established itself.
