Who is Margo? Margo is the synonym for women in Berlin during the wild 1920s and early 1930s. Margo is a vamp in cabaret. She embodies the sophisticated seduction and temptation of men who rule the world. She is also the gentle, insecure girl whose husband returns physically and mentally wounded from the 'Great War.' She is a lesbian, seeking true love at the famous nightclub Eldorado, as well as indulging in a night's pleasure. Margo is also the ordinary woman next door fighting for her rights, women's suffrage, and the right to abortion. Adrienne Haan, a Luxembourg-born singer residing in New York since 1997, masterfully explores the musical cabaret repertoire of an intriguing era, accompanied by the award-winning pianist Benjamin Schaefer. Dietrich, Hollaender, Tucholsky, Spoliansky, Weill and Brecht, Eisler, they all come alive again. La Soirée Noire delves into the wild, fragile Berlin of the Weimar Republic, a dance on the volcano.
