cube #14 — Milo Hatfield (LU). in French is a provocative installation designed to confront viewers with the visceral feeling of powerlessness and moral conflict. A dove, symbol of peace and innocence, is here sacrificed and violently whirls in a confined space with a chain around its neck. With each impact against the immaculate walls, it leaves behind grotesque trails, graphic testimonies of its suffering. Separated from the work by a glass, viewers are forced to assume the role of passive observers, their inability to intervene reflecting paralysis in the face of catastrophes and atrocities happening in distant countries. By evoking feelings oscillating between disgust and compassion, this imposed passivity creates a palpable tension that pushes viewers to confront their own reactions to horror. The artwork invites a profound introspection on our collective response to suffering and our moral responsibility as human beings. By immersing them in a disturbing experience, it demands the public to question the courage needed to face and respond to crises that fill us with impotence, thus encouraging a move from collective inaction to strong action.
