Shodo or Japanese calligraphy, an ancient art of oriental writing that seeks to express the beauty of letters through writing on paper and Chinese ink. Kumiko Onishi is a master calligrapher, recognized by the Japanese National Institute of Calligraphy. Her artist name is Meido, "the enlightened eye" in Japanese. She has received numerous awards from the institute in recent years. Today, she is 88 years old and her creativity knows no bounds. She explains that calligraphy is not just about ideograms, but especially the energy that comes from within the person that creates the movements and the dynamics to achieve a calligraphy. Calligraphy is also a meditation, through breathing. This workshop aims to discover and appreciate meditation and energetic movements within you. It will include short exercises of Okido Yoga (a Japanese-style yoga) to prepare breathing and internal energy.
