Internal borders are very special borders because they often separate political systems, as in Germany and Korea. However, this commonality is also the only one between the two countries. Germany is now reunified, while the border between the two Korean states is still as impermeable as decades ago.
The lecture explores, using examples and film clips, the impact of the division on the depiction of the other in the film.
What clichés, prejudices, longings, or fears are conveyed? What does one's own cinematic portrayal of the 'system opponent' reveal about oneself? Has anything changed in the depiction over the years of division, and if so, what?
