4.48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane / directed by Sandy Artuso

"Remember the light and believe the light

An instant of clarity before eternal night"

Solo-performed by Catherine Elsen, visually designed by artist Anne Lindner and directed by Sandy Artuso, Independent Little Lies brings Sarah Kane’s last play to Kasemattentheater. The play has previously been performed at Kulturfabrik Esch-sur-Alzette (Première) and Centre Culturel Régional opderschmelz Dudelange.

4.48 Psychosis is a powerful and intense exploration of the darkness and the light fighting inside the mind of the protagonist, an intense ride through their mental descent. The virtuosic and precise use of the language, the lyrical potency of this powerful text starkly contrasts with the main theme: the decline of the mental health of the dramatic “I”. But as always in Sarah Kane’s plays, there is hope, and especially through the visual directing and a multifaceted performance, this production will explore the brightness hidden in this text.

**This play deals with mental health and suicide. Audience members who may be sensitive to these elements, please take note**

Artists pushing their limits – when (mental) health becomes an issue.

More and more artists are addressing health in their work – both mental and physical. This can also bring them to their own limits as artistic work always requires a complete immersion into a subject, and entails full disclosure of yourself and your vulnerabilities to the public.

Artists talk about their experiences, about pushing their limits and what they do to protect themselves in the artistic process.

A production by Independent Little Lies – ILL in coproduction with Centre Culturel Kulturfabrik Esch-sur-Alzette and Centre Culturel Régional opderschmelz Dudelange. With the support of the Ministry of Culture, the City of Esch-sur-Alzette and Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte.
