20 years later: Mudam celebrates SHAKE NIGHT
SHAKE NIGHT was a live television programme that took place on 9 July 2004 as part of Re:Location 1-7/Shake, a project supported by the Culture 2000 Programme of the European Union. The programme, produced by Tarantula, was broadcast by RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg and TV Romania Cultural, and on the Re:Location website. This highly experimental project took place after three years of intensive collaboration between innovative art centres in Europe, at a time when the concept of Europe itself needed to be redefined following the fall of the Berlin Wall, the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the introduction of the Euro in many countries. It showcased the work of hundreds of artists and was regarded as a 'model for collaboration' by the European Union’s Education and Culture department. It was conceived and organised by Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’Art Contemporain, Luxembourg; Centrul International pentru Arta Contemporana (CIAC), Bucharest; Muzeul National de Arta Contemporana, Bucharest; Fundatia Artstudio, Cluj, Romania; Centrum Sztuki Wspolczesnef Laznia, Gdansk, Poland; Galeria Jana Koniarka, Trnava, Slovakia; Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich; Halle für Kunst Luneburg, Germany; O.K. Centrum für Gegenwartskunst, Linz, Austria and Villa Arson – Centre national d’art contemporain, Nice, France. SHAKE NIGHT was held under the patronage of Viviane Reding, member of the European Commission, responsible for education, culture, youth, media, and sports. It was realised with the participation of the CNA, Centre National de l’Audiovisuel Luxembourg. The event was presented by Nathalie Reuter and featured, among others, a live interview with Viviane Reding and Erna Hennicot-Schoepges, who was Minister of Culture in Luxembourg at the time. The evening’s highlights included musical and artistic performances from André Mergenthaler, Hsia Fei Chang, and many others. The catalogue Re:Location 1-7/Shake (with an introduction in six European languages) is still available at Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’Art Contemporain and includes the DVD of the TV show.
