Trained in Brussels, Vienna, and Paris, Reckinger is considered a pioneer on the Luxembourg artistic scene. At the end of the 1960s, this art education professor co-founded the two main rebellious art movements: the Konsdrëffer Scheier, and then the Arbeitsgruppe Kunst (1968), later renamed Initiative 69. Driven by a libertarian spirit and an unconventional approach, he was among the first to explore less common forms of expression in Luxembourg such as pop art, hard edge, and conceptual art. Motivated by a humanist conscience and socialist activism, which led him into the political left, he returned to his artistic practice in the late 70s, pursuing a "realistic" approach, devoid of filter and artifice. For Reckinger, the message is direct, accessible to all, and determined. His works are imbued with rebellion – against social injustices, capitalist greed, the established system, and even the art establishment itself. Invited to honor with an exhibition the 2024 recipient of the Lëtzebuerger Konschtpräis, a biennial visual arts award given by the Ministry of Culture, the museum will showcase a selection of emblematic works reflecting the fierce commitment that animated Marc Henri Reckinger. Come and discover the universe of this early messenger, and see how the man and the artist are one, relentlessly placing art at the service of struggle.
