Conference - Luxembourg's caves and their fauna
In addition to many sandstone caves, there are also some limestone caves in Luxembourg. Historical mining of copper, antimony, dolomite, gypsum, slate and, above all, iron ore mining in the Minette have left behind numerous underground cavities. Who would think that this seemingly hostile environment provides the basis for life for a large number of animal species? The speaker presents life underground, starting with animal species that hibernate in caves, through to morphologically specially adapted species that cannot live above ground at all.
