Today, Osees is regarded as one of the essential figures of the American garage scene. The psychedelic brutality of their music is undeniable. On stage, the unique vocal signature of the leader John Dwyer mingles with explosive drums and the furious electric guitars to offer us with raw energy a California-made garage rock. Led by the guitarist and multi-instrumentalist John Dwyer, the group has made super-productivity its spearhead. Indeed, for over ten years, the Oh Sees have been endlessly renewing their compositions. It took John Dwyer a full year to finally deliver a successor to Smote Reverser. While this previous album was a sort of musical chimera drawing inspiration from jazz, prog, space rock, garage, and even metal, Face Stabber goes even further into experimentation. In their unwavering desire to break from any label that could have been given to them, Dwyer and his collaborators prefer to venture onto the more whimsical grounds of jazz fusion and heavy-prog, while still distilling a psychedelic garage secret known only to them.
