In reality, Claudio simply wanted to meet with friends to work on the central idea of their newly founded party: democracy must return to its origins, and the next Prime Minister should be elected by lottery. Due to an involuntary detour, he finds himself face-to-face with a university professor who talks about Victor Hugo's vigorous sexual activity during his stay in Vianden and believes an heir should be found in Luxembourg's genetic pool. While the first lottery-elected Prime Minister is unfortunately a narrow-minded populist, Claudio, along with the professor, embarks on a quest to find one who might unconsciously be the great literary genius missing from Luxembourgensia - a quest that intertwines with Claudio's migratory family history. Ondugen is a partially surreal, partially melancholic satire that not only sabotages the image of the national poet but also questions democracy's place in a world that tramples humanistic values.
