Claudio simply wanted to meet up with friends to develop the core idea of their newly founded party: democracy must return to its roots, and the next Prime Minister should be chosen by lottery.
However, due to an unintended detour, he ends up face to face with a university professor who discusses Victor Hugo's prolific sexual activity during his stay in Vianden, asserting there might be a genetic heir in Luxembourg's pool.
While the lottery-elected Prime Minister is unfortunately a staunch populist, Claudio, alongside the professor, embarks on a quest to find someone who, perhaps unknowingly, is the great literary genius that Luxembourgensia lacks. This quest intersects with his family's migratory history.
Ondugen is a partly surreal, partly melancholic satire, which severely undermines the image of the national poet and questions the place of democracy in a world that tramples on humanistic values.
