Initially, Claudio wanted to meet with friends to work on the central idea of their newly founded party: Democracy must return to its roots, and the next Prime Minister should be elected by lot. Due to an unwelcome detour, he ends up face to face with a university professor discussing Victor Hugo's prolific sexual activity during his stay in Veianer, suggesting that a descendant might be found in Luxembourg's genetic pool. While the first lottery-elected Prime Minister is unfortunately a dull populist, Claudio and the professor embark on a search for someone who might unknowingly be the great literary genius missing from Luxembourgia—a search that intersects with Claudio's migratory family history. Ondugen is a partly surreal, partly melancholic satire, which not only sabotages the image of the national poet but also questions democracy's place in a world that tramples humanist values.
