Halil Caliskan’s first hour, Homesick, is a candid and intelligent exploration of life abroad, blending sharp observations, witty stories and dark political satire. As an emerging Turkish talent on the English comedy scene, Halil tackles identity crises, cultural differences, Amsterdam’s famous coffee shop culture and encounters with Dutch gurus on psychedelic retreats. His deadpan humour and easygoing delivery take the audience on a thought-provoking journey through the highs and lows of his experience, offering a bold, gripping yet funny take on what it means to be away from home.
Halil Caliskan is a Turkish comedian who has been living in Amsterdam since 2017. After quitting his 9-5 job as a consultant, he pursued his dream of opening a restaurant, only to discover that life had other plans in early 2020. Accustomed to using humour to cope with life’s challenges since childhood, Halil found himself at an open mic one night and discovered a new passion for stand-up. What started as an escape became something much bigger. He transformed his restaurant into a comedy club, Patron Stage – named after the restaurant’s bossy cat – and since then he has performed and produced hundreds of shows in exciting theatres and comedy clubs across Europe and beyond.
The show is for ages 18 and up. Video recording will not be permitted during the show; however, you may take photos.
