Mardis Littéraires - Meeting with Didier Boudet
Once or twice a month (always on Tuesdays), the Lëtzebuerg City Bibliothèque invites literary authors to present their novels and read extracts from their works, followed by a discussion with the public and a book signing. On the program for Mardi Littéraire on February 4ht: Didier Boudet - Quand le jazz débarque (1944-1954)! Music in freedom!
In 1944, the landing of the GI's brought a breath of freedom to Europe, with jazz as a symbol of renewal. Victory discs introduced a whole population to new music from across the Atlantic, in particular jazz, synonymous with new-found freedom, whose orchestra, led by the inimitable Glenn Miller, skilfully blended orchestration with the pleasure of dancing. As for French jazz, which developed under the Occupation, it was not to be outdone, marvelously integrating the tradition of New Orleans with the boldness of the emerging Be-Bop.
Together, lecturer and journalist Didier Boudet and the Big Band of the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg explore the careers of musicians and critics who left their mark on the era.
