Dieter Borchmeyer, Amadeus Wiesensee
Beethoven plays a central role in Thomas Mann's late novel "Doktor Faustus". The lectures by musical scholar Wendell Kretzschmar are crucial for the artistic development of the novel's protagonist, composer Adrian Leverkühn, culminating in the analysis of Beethoven's piano sonata op. 111. Finally, there is Leverkühn's intention to "withdraw" the Ninth Symphony with his last work "Doctor Fausti Wehklag," opposing the "Ode to Joy" with a song of sorrow, which eventually leads to the retraction being retracted at the work's conclusion.
Lecture by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Dieter Borchmeyer.
Musical accompaniment on the piano by Amadeus Wiesensee.
