In recent decades, comics have undergone a remarkable transformation. Initially judged solely for their entertainment value, they have diversified to the extent that there is now no subject that is not also treated in a comic. History plays a particular role in this context. It has not only been a major source of inspiration for fiction from the beginning, but it also offers many opportunities to experiment with the didactic potential of comics.
In this conference, in conversation with comic artists Marc Angel and Antoine Grimée, and historian Benoît Majerus, the development of the portrayal of history in Luxembourgish comics will be retraced, highlighting the strengths, but also the limits of this diverse form of expression.
