Luxembourgish Language Atlas 1900 - Word Atlas
The first volume of the Luxembourgish language atlas 1900 created by Alain Atten and Claude Schmit, focusing on sounds and forms, is now complemented by the second volume, the word atlas. Around 250 dialect maps illustrate how people spoke in Luxembourg during the 1960s and 1970s, and partially still today. Where do people say "Päiperlek" and where "Millermoler" or "Pimpampel"? What does "virzoppen" mean? What other expressions existed then for "Kopplabunz"? During the official presentation of the word atlas, you can discover the authors' new maps, learn more about some local variants in Luxembourg and the Arlon region, and get an insight into the work involved in such a large project. Moderation: Christiane Kremer In collaboration with the Centre for the Luxembourgish Language (ZLS) and the Section of Linguistics, Ethnology and Onomastics of the Institut Grand-Ducal (IGD-LEO).
