Guided Tours of the Exhibition – Féierungen duerch d’Ausstellung
This exhibition is a true journey through time, offering a detailed overview of Luxembourgish libraries from the 16th to the 19th century. It explores documentary history from a new perspective through masterpieces from the special collections of the National Library of Luxembourg.
The exhibition highlights the diversity of historical libraries, from monastic and ecclesiastical collections to the private libraries of figures such as Pierre Roberti (ca. 1566-1636) or Pierre-Ernest de Mansfeld (1517-1604). The tour also highlights the influence of notable personalities such as Jean-Baptiste Halle (1748-1824) and Dominique-Constantin Munchen (1763-1818), whose efforts marked the country's documentary history.
Particular attention is given to printed books, often overshadowed by manuscripts, considered more spectacular. In this context, various aspects related to the material object are highlighted: the authors, the subjects covered, the dedicatees, the social groups that consulted it, traces of use, or provenance.
