The complete illustrated autobiography of the cult comic book artist, Strizz. Summer 1948: a family of refugees seeks its place in post-war life. At four years old, young Volker gazes in wonder at the new world, his four siblings, and his parents, who emerged from the war uncompromised. The father of the family served National Socialism as "Poet of the Führer"; the mother was Gauleiter, an official of a territorial district, in the "Bund deutscher Mädchen". But to Volker, all this is incomprehensible. It contributes to the great adventure of childhood. And to the great adventure of art, for 65 years later, the boy became the famous comic book artist Volker Reiche. With Strizz from 2002 to 2010, Volker Reiche drew the most popular newspaper comic in Germany for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Reiche received several important awards, such as the Max and Moritz Prize from the city of Erlangen, the Olaf-Gulbransson Prize, the Swift Prize from the Marktwirtschaft Foundation, or the "Best German Comic Artist" award in 2006. In his great autobiographical work "Kiesgrubennacht", Volker Reiche narrates, in an unprecedented way in comics, what made him an artist, and about his childhood life in post-war.
