Padre Soler is best known for composing a stunning fandango for the harpsichord. This Catalan was a pupil of Domenico Scarlatti, and it is thanks to his copies that some of Scarlatti's sonatas have been preserved. Soler composed over a hundred keyboard pieces, a lot of vocal music, and he was also known as a theorist. The quintets are inspired by his relationship with Infant Gabriel and are exemplary in a completely new ensemble format in European music history of the time. They are both brilliant and delicate.
